Gt Totham 2nd XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 1.30 p.m.
Great Waltham Cricket Club Lost by 4 Wickets

Match report 'We've lost that lovin' feeling' as our top guns fail to fire...

It was more like spud gun than top gun this week, skipper Adam Kendrick took a strong side away to great totham. With a pitch that divided opinions, Adam lost the toss and GW were stuck in to bat.

Understandably, on a pitch that isn't regularly used (tothams usual ground falling victim to a summer fate) you would expect it to 'do a bit' but with the combination steady bowling, variable bounce, and some rash decisions. We got ourselves into serious bother early on in our innings. With returning players like Neil Robinson and Nindi ........... Bolstering an already strong batting line up, this was not the start we were expecting.

Every mini partnership looked promising, when players dug in and 'played the conditions' but it was Sam Harman bating at 8, and scoring 33 before any player scored over 20 runs. The only real positives, we managed to stumble our way to 141 all out. Using all but 1 of our 45 overs. Oh and the sun was out.........

A massive performance was needed with the ball. And with great walthams very own 'maverick and goose' opening the bowling (i'll let you choose whos who) anything was possible... However for the second week in succession... the opening pair failed to make the kind of impact required in the opening 20 overs. Totham knocking of runs at a steady rate, and at drinks were only 2 wickets down. Dan bloom, and Mark Elgar were tossed the ball in an attempt to get quick wickets after drinks. But they both struggled this week. A few costly overs in the middle of the innings.

There was a tidy spell from Sam Harman. A steady economy rate. But in a game that desperately needed wickets, Adam turned to the opening duo in a last ditch attempt to make something of the game. Creative field placings and 2 more wickets each for Alex Horne (3-24) and Martin Kendrick (3-38) did bring a glimmer of hope late on, but it wasn't to be... And the home side managed to score the runs required with 10 overs to spare.

We may feel that luck was against us this week. Anyone that saw the game would agree, that when bowling, chances did fall in gaps and that the pitch 'behaved' a better as it dried out...... However I believe you make your own luck, we didn't score enough runs and failed to put the ball in the right spots when bowling. Nothing unlucky about that...

Two defeats in two weeks has seen this promotion charge 'crash and burn'....... Ok it's not quite that bad but next week is now a huge game.

Positive mental attitude and a 'workman like' performance and we can fly back to the top of the table.
