Chelmsford 6th XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 10 Jun 2017 at 1.30 pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 133 runs

Match report This week saw the Waltham Babes play Chelmsford 6th Xl at Chelmer Park in a game that should test the progress of the 3rd XI. On a fabulously prepared pitch, Great Waltham decided to bat first and the regular opening partnership of Gore and Webb were quick to get into their stride. After 10 overs the visitors were 60 runs without loss, providing a steady platform to build a big score.

60 runs without loss quickly turned into 121 for 0 after 20 overs as drinks were taken. Gore had reached his second consecutive 50 and Webb was playing a very supportive role. The interval however seemed to break concentration as Webb was stumped, Elles caught and Cumpstey bowled in quick succession - 127 for 3 after 23 overs.

The introduction of the young Kuzhuphilly, the pick of the Chelmsford attack, saw Gore bowled for 93. The middle order of Eaglesham Senior, Tanner and Brown delivered some T20 style hitting and the former reached his first 50 in Green Cap colours. The Great Waltham tail wagged and and an extremely competitive score of 228 for 8 was set.

With the sun now shining, a rare sight in June so far, the Waltham faithful were applying their creams. As with the batting line up, all the Green Caps wanted a bowl and this created a real competitive edge. At 33 for 1 from 15 overs Chelmsford were trying to build a similar platform as the Green Caps, but this unfortunately failed to materialise. The pick of the bowling saw Chapman (2 for 17), Gavlar (3 for 3) and Elles (3 for 3) enjoy themselves and Chelmsford all out for 95.

The talk of the evening was whether the 3rd Xl should join the league next season? A healthy debate will be had I'm sure. Thank you Brownie and Nipper for coming to support and thank you Webb Senior for keeping such a tidy scorebook! #thefuturesbrightthefuturesgreen #strongertogether.
