Club update 1st April 2020

01 Apr 2020

Good afternoon Fellow Members

Firstly, I hope you are all safe and healthy. We are living in ‘interesting times’ and like others no doubt we are all making adjustments to our daily lives. Working from home is a new experience to many. Sport has often been an escape and a stress reliever, however not in my time have we had to live without sport, watching, participating or even practicing.

A few of you may be wondering how this affects our club? What is the financial impact? How long can we sustain a period of no cricket?

Let me assure you the matter is being closely monitored on a weekly/monthly basis. Having had a conversation with our Chairman and Treasurer last week, here are the main points from we’d like to share with you all:

1.     We GWCC, unlike many clubs are in a stable financial position, this means we could potentially go through the whole season and still be in the ‘black’ (credit), assuming point 2. And we hold a couple of fund raisers. This is based on us NOT playing any cricket;

2.     We are expecting a sponsors donation shortly from D & B, which our chairman is confident will be credited;

3.     As many of you know we have contracted a new groundsman and he will still need to be paid;

4.     The league have informed us to hold the payment for cricket balls until further notice;

5.     At present with no planned cricket on the horizon, we are not getting any income from subs and match fees or colts;

6.     We plan to monitor our position on a monthly basis and act accordingly. We will keep you all informed of any changes;

7.   We will also look at possible funding from various sources if required.

Finally, if you have any points you wish to make, please reply to this email. Also if you have any suggestions on any 'Virtual activities' you feel we can run as a club, please let me know.

I will keep you informed of any further developments.

Stay safe and healthy.
