Match report Great Waltham cruised to victoy in the first of their 3 pool games with a compehensive 39 run victory against Bentley.

Batting first in gloomy conditions, wickets fell at regular intervals as the top order struggled to adjust to the pace of the wicket. Only DC (24) demonstrated any application as a great opportunity for some batting practice was missed by Adam, Sam & Andy. At 42-5 after just 8 overs we were in danger of not batting out our full compliment.

Kempy and Swanny had othe ideas.

Both batted sensibly(!) given the circumstances and with a mixture of big hits, classic shots and some comical running between the wickets the two of them put together a partnership of 72 before Swanny was out for 26 to a great catch at deep backward square. Tom Knapp clipped his first delivery for 4 before Cross picked up his 3rd wicket of a tidy spell. Kempy retired at 52* and the innings closed at a competitive 144-8.

In reply a more defensive field setting and tight bowling from Swanny, Dan Bloom and Josh Fitz ensured that Bentley were never really in the hunt as the game fizzled out in the dark and the drizzle.

Dan - with 3-19 - was by far the pick of the bowlers in a great spell of controlled spin bowling.

Bentley closed on 105-5... after 19 overs due to a bizarre cock-up between umpires, scorers & the treasurer.
