Match report Match day 5. A fantastic day of sport lay ahead. Exeter v Saracens in the Gallagher Rugby Premiership Final. Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool in the Champions League Final and Great Waltham 3rd XI v Tillingham 3rd Xl in T Rippon League Division 10. Elite sport at its best! Table topping Waltham were looking to continue their impressive run of results and with Deano in Madrid, Spen-Dog was at the helm.

With a slightly earlier start time, Tillingham batted first and with a team of youth and experience the early order would need to score well. Tokley and Kent again opening the bowling and after 10 overs the visitors were 28 for 1. Despite a little controversy, Olney was finally caught behind by Fall off the bowling of Kent and the Green Caps were starting to apply some pressure.

Fitness guru Joe Reed, ironically returning from a hamstring injury, took the important wicket of Mears and the Tillingham experience was now in full view. Butterwick and D Mason occupied the crease for 22 overs and accumulated 86 runs. I Elles, Tanner, A Webb and Richards all bowled economically in this period with neither bat nor ball getting the upper hand. Tillingham 117 for 2 from 34 overs.

Mark Richards, no relation to Viv, took the much needed wicket of Butterwick (39) and all of a sudden the tables had turned. Wickets tumbled as Reed, Tokley and Elles all feasted on the lower order and 117 for 2 became 131 for 8 six overs later. Spen-Dog was happy and the Green Caps fourth victory was in sight.

Cricket can often be an unpredictable game and the old phrase of 'why make things easy for yourself when you can make them difficult' springs to mind. Spen-Dog and Tanner were back in the pavilion both leg before wicket off the bowling of Lang. 33 for 2 from 8 overs. Youngster Fall and Richards were around for a good time, not a long time, as Lang took a further two wickets and Great Waltham were 61 for 4 from 16 overs. Squeaky bum time.

Enter centre stage, our very own Freddie Flintoff, aka Phil Rolfe. The left handled bat showed control, power and precision. Ably supported by Gavlar the Waltham experience made it look all too easy. Now scoring at eight an over the game was running away from Tillingham and the final straw was the over that went for two sixes and two fours in true Freddie style. Great Waltham Green Caps 132 for 4 from 23.5 overs. Don't tell everyone but we're still top!!!
