Match report The 2s also faced OCs at home and elected to bat after winning the toss. Josh De’ath attempted to be the aggressor as he made his way to 19 but a flurry of 3 quick saw us 25-3. The OCs opener Ali took all three wickets in a great spell of 9 overs 3-15. If ever there was the need for a captain’s innings, now was the time. Dave Clout and Kieran Webb put on 72 for 4th wicket and wrestled back some of the initiative. Dave made a fantastic 50 from 56 balls which included three massive sixes. Isaac and Kieran both made 25 but when we lost both of them, we were concerned that we were going to be a bit short at 153-7. Chappie and Harrison contributed some double figure scores to drag us to 175/9 but we felt short.
JT and Max Harman made early inroads with the ball to reduce the visitors to 45-2 but the run rate was relatively high. The next passage of play was going to be an important one and unfortunately for us, we couldn’t get the wickets we needed. Norman and McNeil put on 80 for the 3rd wicket which really put us in trouble. Isaac induced a false shot from Norman as he swept to Alfie at mid wicket for a well made 46. When Miles bowled McNeil shortly after for 41 there was a glimmer of hope at 136-4. Due to the faster start that OCs made with the bat, we found it hard to apply pressure and they could knock ones and twos. JT got one final wicket in his returning spell but Ali finished off his good work with the ball with 17* with the bat to see his side home. A 5 wicket loss for the 2s as they sit just outside the relegation zone of division 3.
