Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Ingatestone 2nd XI on Sat 18 May 2013 at 1.30 p.m.
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
An exhibition of bowling, skittles Ingatestone….
If ever there was a game that underlined the importance of bowling in partnerships, it was this one.
With returning skipper Adam Kendrick winning the toss on an overcast afternoon and an early season pitch, it was inevitable he elected to bowl. And bowl we most certainly did…
Swinging deliveries down the hill from Alex Horne backed up by a flurry of wickets up the hill from Vice-Skipper Martin Kendrick. This bowling partnership pegged down Ingatestone and within a blink of the eye, the visitors stumbled to 55 All out. Some sharp catching in the 4 man slip-cordon and a good all round fielding display, complimented the bowling nicely.
Martin Kendrick finishing with 6 wickets for just 11 runs off his 12 overs, led the attack! With ‘pistol’ Pete Collins (7 overs 3-16) and Dan Bloom (2.4 overs 1-7) ploughing through the lower order, the job was complete.
At the interval the focus switched to the batsmen. With a somewhat modest target of 56 to win off 60 overs. ‘No silly mistakes’ was the message they took to the crease…
Only a top edge to the keeper spoiled a near perfect response, with Buck Jones (6) the only man returning to the pavilion. A solid display again, this time with the bat for Dan Bloom (30*) and a positive cameo from Adam Kendrick (15*) sealed a fantastic afternoon’s cricket.
Result -- Great Waltham win by 9 wickets.
