Great Waltham Cricket Club Under 13's v Galleywood on Wed 24 Jun 2015 at 6pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won By 17 runs
Match report
In the words of Ritchie Benaud ‘marvellous cricket was witnesses here today’ as the youthful mighty Greens Caps entertained Galleywood U13s.
Great Waltham batted first but got off to a slow start. The previous form of Cumpstey and Walton had deserted them but both Brown and Webb stepped up to the mark. With Brown batting sensibly and Webb tenaciously, the third wicket partnership made a very creditable 72 runs. This proved to be a key stage of the match as Brown (18) and Webb (32) accelerated the run rate. The strength of the team at present is that all batsmen have contributed to the scoreboard when needed. Barker (11) hit boundaries at the close with a total of 106 for 7 being achieved.
The WAMs (Wives and Mothers) were out in force enjoying the weather as Galleywood set about the run chase. After a tight ten overs the visitors were 41 for 1. Atkinson and Barker were now turning their arm and wickets began to tumble. Atkinson made a stunning caught and bowled, seemingly surprising himself and Barker knocked the bails off to account for batsman 1, 5 and 6. Galleywood were now at 63 for 6 off of 16 overs. All Green Caps were fielding like tigers and despite a big six at the end the visitors made 89 for 8 at the close.
Three wins on the bounce. Boys and parents happy. Tillingham and Hatfield Peverel to play soon. Life is good at Great Waltham CC!
