Match report Brownie won the toss and was a little unsure of what to do but we did what we do best apparantley and bowled first.
This looked a good call when Barry picked up two early wickets with the score on 29 , all the Marconi batsmen play their shots with great aggression and although they score reasonably well they always give you chances and this is how it turned out to be for the remainder of the innings.The wicket was showing signs of keeping a bit low from time to time and the ball was crucified after 20 overs due to the outfield covered in 10 tonne of sand which didnt help.Afzal continued to play many ariel shots and got to his fifty but with Jim and Sam bowling well we were pleased when we bowled them out for 147 . Jim takng 4-17 and a good opening spell from Cookie saw him claim 1-28 from his 12 overs.
The reply was a slow start but this really was a game of 2 wickets as unlike the first innings when the ball kept low now and again when we batted it kept low more often than not, this was not a reflection of good bowling it was easy to see why not many runs are scored on it after tea and what with the help of southend sea front as an outfield it was very difficult to hit many boundaries and i think it made their bowlers look better than how they bowled. But anyway im not bitter as you can tell but this was the story for the innings we had hoped to play with more aggresion and positive but it was very difficult only Phil was showing signs of opening up but when he was bowled with the score on 50 it was looking harder. Bilal and Afzal were bowling tightly with lots of encouragment from the wicket and wickets were falling quite quickly and we finished well short by 33 runs Bilal took 3 -34 from 12 and Afzal 2- 29 from 12 , it may have been a diffrent story on a diffrent wicket but who knows.
