Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Great Baddow II on Sat 14 Jun 2008 at 1.30 pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won 97 runs
Match report
Gt Baddow won the toss and inserted us into bat on what looked a good track , but we were finding runs hard to come by in the first 10 overs and had only reached 20 for the loss of Buck. With Phil being introduced to the crease to join Mick shots of the more positive manner were starting to be played and both batsmen were finding boundaries at regular times. When the 20th over was bowled we had pused up to 86 , the next ten overs saw both players increase the tempo and wasnt long before they had a half century to their names and were still together after 30 overs and had moved swiftly on to 185 , soon after this was reached Phil misjudged a delivery which saw him loose his bail for a tremendous 80, Mick Continued to play in the same vain and with batsmen coming in to try and get as close to 300 as possible wickets were being lost gradually, the momentum was still there as Kempy ,Brownie and Spanner added quick runs and when the innings drew to a close we had reached 291-6 with Mick Headon unbeaten on an excellent 125.
The reply for Baddow never really got going and when they lost their Captain in the first over it was looking a more desperate ask. Nuttell played some aggresive shots of intent to keep things ticking over but with Barry claiming another wicket and a superb run out Baddow had lost 3 wickets for 67 runs with 15 overs gone. Brownie called himself into the attack and kept things tight and with runs drying up he continued to bowl straight and claim a couple of quick wickets, the hi-light of the reply saw Brownie on a hat-trick ,after claiming Austin, and Taylor in succesive deliveries he brought all the field up for the hat -trick delivery the batsmen tried to fend one off but only succeded in finding Buck who had moved up to gulley and he duly did the honours in dropping it.(will cost him dear for rest of season) but the damage was done and although the last pair put on 60 odd for the last wicket the innings came to a close with the opposition finishing all out for 194 and a great win.
