Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Herongate II on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 1.30 pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
When the opposition finally arrived we got underway on a hot afternoon Herongate won the toss and decided to bat.A quick and hostile opening spell of bowling from Barry saw the opposition struggle and lost their skipper in the third over with things being kept tight Herongate were finding runs difficult to come by and was no surprise when Barry grapped another couple of quick wickets and with Cookie chipping in with one saw Herongate at 23-4 from 7 overs. Browne came to the crease looking to play some positive shots but he couldnt get anybody to stay with him with wickets falling at regular times.Jim replaced Cookie from the bottom end and was soon in the wickets taking a wicket in his first over. With Barry continuing his fine spell the innings was coming to a close when Barry took his fifth and sixth wickets in the same over Herongate were now 84-8 Browne continued to play positive which saw him score 49 before he was bowled by Jim and although the runs had increased with some final blows from the tail the innings closed on 133 ao with Barry Taking 6-48 and Jim 3-33.
The reply got of to a positive start with both Buck and Mick continuing their fine form and with the opposition heads dropping runs were becoming easier to find and in the 10 overs before tea we had reached 37 without loss. So after a fine spread from Buck we set about the task to finish the job (eat the teas) while Buck and Mick went in search of the win. Both players were looking comfortable at the crease and was not long before Mick had reached his fifty with some excellent hitting and with Buck also playing his part the partnership had reached 118 before the latter was caught for 32. This was a wicket to late for Herongate and the win was secured in the 28th over with Mick unbeaten on a splendid 82.
