Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Rankins II on Sat 26 Jul 2008 at 1.30 pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 42 runs
Match report
Waltham were invited to bat against Rankins a side we have had great success against , we got of to a steady start with Buck and Dumpy adding 37 before the latter was out for 12. We then started to struggle losing another couple of wickets cheaply but Kempy came in looking very positive and soon the momentum was back with us. With phil supporting well for 31 the total was looking more like the 250 we had set ourselves but with a flurry of wickets falling quickly Rankins were holding us back . Kempy continued to play aggressive and was duly rewarded with a fine half century we got to the last 5 overs on 198 with only 3 wickets left but a cameo innings from Cookie of 40 saw us end on 251 for 9 and kempy with 77.
The reply was perfect for us picking up a wicket early on thanks to James Taylor, but that was as good a sit got for a while as Greenfield and Davis put on 80 for the next wicket before the scoreboard pressur told and Davis was run out for 27. Threadgold joined his partner and continued to pile on th eruns putting on 66for the next wicket Rankins went into the last 10 overs needing 85 to win with still plenty of batsmen in the hutch . Brownie was bowling tightly and the pressure was getting to the batsmen as he continued to bowl a good line and length this was the downfall of many batsmen as wickets started to fall and the runs started to dry up and when Greenfield was caught for 90 the game was all but over and Rankins finished on 209-9 and a 42 run victory.
