Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI v Rettendon II on Sat 23 Aug 2008 at 12.30 pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Waltham won the toss and had no hesitation putting Rettendon into bat on a slightly dampish wicket. James Taylor opened up from the top end and struck in hid first over with the score on 1 . Thomas joined Cole at the crease and both players were looking settled and with some fine strokes had soon reached a fifty partnership, the moved the total onto 77 before Cole found Phil in the deep of the bowling off Kempy. This started a mini collapse from Rettendon with Jim joining in the wickets and Rettendon were soon in trouble at 116-5. Ivan Cole played some aggressive shots to keep the board ticking over but Brownie introduced himself into the attack to keep the runs down and soon joined the wicket takers column.Cole reached his half century before he was bowled and the last few batsmen crumbled finishing the inningson 162-ao in the 43rd over.Jim and Brownie both taking 4 wickets apeice.
The reply got of to a splendid start with both Buck and Dumpy looking very comfortable against some at best bad bowling. The runs were flowing with ease and neither player looked in trouble and with the oppositions heads down it wasnt long before Dumpy had reached his fifty in no time at all and with Buck to join him later the job was all but over. Dumpy continued to remain unbeaten on 75 while Buck was dismissed for 52 but with the partnership reaching 159 and when Elliot hit his third ball for 4 it was game over in the 23rd over.
