Herongate II v Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 30 Aug 2008 at 12.30 pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won won by 5 wickets
Match report
We lost the toss on our last game of the season a game we needed to gain 6 points for automatic promotion and after last seasons dissapointment was eager not to suffer the same fate.
Herongate lost a wicket in the first over thanks to Cookie , but the batsmen soon found there groove when they were finding boundaries with ease and were 43-1 from 4 overs.Barry was bowling with extra pace and when found his line and length hadf the batsmen jumping all over the place and when he picked up a couple of wickets Herongate werent looking so comfortable and with Glen picking up another the opposition were now in trouble at 68-4. they rebuilt their innings with a steady partnership but Brownie came into the attack and was soon in the wickets striking in his second over and when barry had finished his spell Herongate were in deep trouble at 80 odd for six. Brownie continued his tight spell forcing another couple of wickets and with Kempy continuing the pace from the House end found himself with a couple of wickets and the opposition finished on 128 all out a dissapointing end to a great start.
So five points were gained and more or less a guaranteed promotion but funny things have happened before so we wanted to finish the season on a high and go up as champions and hope Tillingham would beat Purleigh.
Dumpy started of like a train timing everything with such ease finding consecutive boundaries ball after ball , but he was deceived when he was on 25 by a ball that somehow managed to bowl him. The score had reached 40 odd so we we were in a good position but when Elliot and Lee fell with no extra runs it was looking a bit nervy. Hudders came to the crease full of confidence and was playing shots with great assurance and Buck ticking over quite nicely at the other end pcking up the odd single and boundary. Hudders was soon to reach his half century to erase any fears but Buck was out with the score on 105, Kempy was put in to finish it off but he to was bowled for nought and now we were doing a good job of trying to gain a defeat from the jaws of victory , but with Hudders unbeaten on 60 and Deano not out at the end our victory was achieved and promotion gained.
Purleigh beat Tillingham by loads to take the title but a great season by all and again my thanks to each and every player for their contribution.
