Match report How different the weather from last week to this! On an overcast, cloudy day in Galleywood the mighty Green Caps U15s went in search of their first win of the season. Against a similar aged team as Great Waltham, a close encounter looked to be on the cards.

A short boundary rope saw both Gore and Webb get off the mark with 4s. Line and length was key as the opening partnership made 20 runs. Webb was caught for 5 but the arrival of De’ath continued the free flowing collection of runs. Gore hit a number of boundaries until he was bowled by spinner Wickes by a ball that turned for 25.

The senior De’ath was now at the crease with the talented Carroll. This partnership rattled along making 60 quick runs and then a mini collapse pursued. Chapman, Brown, Elles and Barker were all out cheaply. Carroll made 47 not out as a total of 124 for 8 was made. A competitive total on a small ground.

Galleywood started well with Palotallo hitting a plethora of 4s. These runs were split by wickets being taken as the home side found themselves at 43 for 3. A key wicket of the opener caught by Gore bowled by Brown put the brakes on for a while. Nurcombe and the Hicks boys all got themselves in and then out again but the run rate continued to fall.

Squeaky bum time arrived as Galleywood needed 21 off the last 2 overs with wickets in hand. The penultimate over went for 12 runs as Chapman came on to bowl the last 6 balls, 10 runs needed to win. 4 off the first, 1 run off of ball three, four and five, saw Galleywood needing 2 runs of the last ball to tie. Running the first quickly Yates came back for the second only to see wicket keeper Webb clip off the bails. An exciting victory for the victorious Green Caps. Get in - shame about the weather!
