South Woodham Ferrers 1st XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club Under 13's on Sun 12 Jul 2015 at 9:30
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won By 10 wickets
Match report
On an overcast morning the Mighty Green Caps had an early ‘get up’ to be at South Woodham Ferrers for a 9.30 start. Could this be six wins on the spin? All boys needed to be on their ‘A’ game to achieve the ‘V’ that had been achieved the previous week.
With the visitors winning the toss, Waltham elected to field which saw the Ferrers opening pair of Jorge and Carr at the crease. The Waltham scorer had unfortunately sat on geese dropping pre match, only to be ridiculed by the travelling support. Rather than sharpen his pencil he needed to dampen his shorts!
The opening bowling partnership of Eaglesham and Chapman were as effective as ever as SWF found themselves 9 for 3 after 4 overs. Eaglesham’s second over was a double wicket maiden and Chapman, not to be outdone, bowled the dangerous Sheridan. Atkinson and Putt entered the attack as wickets continued to tumble and at the half way stage Ferrers were 35 for 5 from 10 overs.
It was a joy to see both Murphy and Cumpstey take their first and second wicket for the U13s respectively. Both will gain confidence from this. Robinson Junior, wearing the new England ODI kit, bowled well and as Eaglesham and Chapman returned to the attack South Woodham made 71 for 8 from their allocated 20 overs.
The Great Waltham innings started briskly as Walton and Barker found their form. Sheridan and Mangan looked pacey but both openers took all in their stride. The scoreboard ticked over with 32 runs after 5 overs being scored. Walton (33 retired not out) batted freely and Barker (19 not out) was determined to carry his bat. 10.5 overs were bowled.
Another very pleasing performance from the Green Caps. South Woodham Ferrers geese beware. The scorer’s not happy!
