Purleigh 1st XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 09 Jun 2018 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets

Match report A fine all-round performance from Freegard (3-39, 46 runs and a catch) helped Purleigh to a comfortable 6 wicket victory.

Sadly it was a game we were never ahead in, the turning point was Nindi being run out at the non-strikers end with your truly driving a full toss back to the bowler, who inadvertently deflected the ball onto the stumps with Nindi's bat on the line. It was a brief partnership of 23, Nindi had scored 18 of them, 12 in two hits. The dismissal came at a time when we looked to have started to swing the momentum our way. Thereafter, there was a regular fall of wickets, no one able to come to terms with a track that looked a belter, however played much slower. Unfortunately, I couldn't shepherd the tail to 180. Neil batted well for his 18, unfortunately no one in the middle order contribute.
To Purleigh's credit, their slower bowlers, all bowled a fuller length and to their fields. At tea we had hobbled to 149 all out with an over to spare.

To give us any hope of victory, we needed a couple of early wickets of a bowl some maidens. What transpired was completely the opposite, the opening partnership raced to 60 in in 6 overs, boundaries galore. Even a fine spell of bowling from Robbo 3-29 off 10 could not divert a result that had seemed Purleigh's at the start of their innings.

A couple of week's ago, I said if we could win 4 out of five games, we would be in a comfortable position. Since then we are 1 out of two and next week we are back at home where this season we had won our two games. Let's hope that trend continues. East Hanningfield are the visitors, who also suffered defeat this weekend. Although we are 3rd from bottom, next week's game can be viewed as another mid-table clash. We need 3 out of 3 for my plan to manifest. We have the talent and now we need 'lady luck' to make an appearance at our home next week.

Have a great week. ap
