Match report
Firstly apologies for the incomplete scorecard. I had asked one of our young players to copy the visitors scorebook. Why he decided to copy our innings when it was already beautifully written by Harry I have no idea. This 2nd change bowler shall remain nameless!
What a treat to travel less than 15 minutes to the visitors ground. A ground surprisingly high number of us had never played before. The rumours leading up to this fixture were how strong the opposition were with a couple of their first team players discarded/didn't want to play 1s/club politics/etc. They did look a very strong side. Which is why it pains me to write this. I woke up at 230am this morning, unable to sleep, of a golden opportunity missed. Late afternoon we were well placed 61-0 after 21 overs, chasing 181 to win. We had been similarly placed against Navestock earlier in the season. Yesterday, after I had 'fallen over' to the off and plumb missing a middle stump half volley. Our leading run scorer Nindi soon departed when he drove firmly to mid-on without troubling the scorers. At tea I had said that one of the top three had to bat through the innings and we would be victorious. Spanner can change games with a blitzkrieg, unfortunately suffering the same fate as Nindi, drove firmly to mid-off.
Micky who had laid the foundations, having seen of Bird (who was the best seamer I've faced this year), played back to Cant and brought end a good innings of 50. How we yearned for another 10 overs from Micky.
Our youngsters all tried hard, however the boundaries dried up and unlike last week, so did the 2s and 3s.
We ended 27 short and yes we can talk about 'what if', however the truth is we did a great job restricting the opposition to 180. Howeve, the middle and lower order batting is in transition. I have no doubt many of our youngsters will become very fine batsmen. Let’s continue to give them the opportunity to develop.
Earlier in the day I won the toss and with the exception of ‘Spanner’ our bowling attack were all teenagers. How refreshing for the club and myself that they stuck to my request of not trying to bowl too many different deliveries and letting the batsmen make mistakes. Special mention to Harry, Joe, Rhys and Cameron in particular (can’t give you figures) who all bowled well. Once again the fielding was energetic and solid with only one catch put down.
With six games left and only 14 points separating 6th and 9th place, all to play for. This is the time stand up and take responsibility, we need two probably 3 wins. This is completely achievable with the talent we have. Yes the holiday season is upon us and I will be absent for the next two games, however that will be affecting all sides.
I wish you all teams much success in the coming weeks. Well done to our 1st team Captain in scoring his second league ton and guiding his team to victory and the 3rds for consecutive wins.

I agree that my single-minded approach was a failing in life, but if I upset people, it was never intentional - it was just the unfortunate result of a burning desire to get the best out of myself and achieve as much as possible. Geoffrey Boycott
