Rettendon 2nd XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 25 Aug 2018 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
A clinical performance against the weakest opposition in the division has set up a mouth watering final game against the division leaders Navestock at home next week. Apart from a very brief moment when we were 2-2 chasing, yours truly having played a horrendously horrid drive to wide ball and Nindi unable to deposit a long hop, this game was the most comfortable we have played this year.
Having won the toss Robbo had no hesitation in inserting Rettendon, many of their players had not arrived. The wicket was low and slow and Lock had decided shot making was not possible and had occupied the crease until he was 7th man dismissed. Huge credit to all our bowlers, they performed as they have done for most of the season, with discipline bowling line and length. On this wicket it was always going to be difficult to score fluently. The opposition batsmen were not willing to occupy the crease. When a side is dismissed for 86, the bowling figures are going to be pretty impressive. Robbo leading the way with 4-23, Chappy 3-11 and Harry 2-2 (yes, 2 for 2)!
After the initial shock of losing two quick wickets, Ryan batting with fluency and aggression dismissed any thoughts of a close game. He's unbeaten 56 including 11 fours and a six, shame he dropped a sitter on the mid-wicket boundary:) Together with Matty, who once again showed confidence opening (also has been keeping better than I've seen him), took us to 67 before he was surprisingly bowled round his legs.
So after 17 games, one of Great Totham, Purleigh and us will revisit Rettendon next season. The long term weather looks fine and availability also strong. Navestock although top of the division are not guaranteed promotion and will be seeking a win themselves, no doubt be bringing a strong eleven. What a week in prospect...and the 4th Test starts on Thursday.
Enjoy your week.
