Match report
The Meteorologist forecast was 100% accurate on Saturday and the rain duly arrived and stayed, confining us to an early drive home after tea. However, there were some fine performances from several members.
Much to my surprise and delight we were asked to bat, the wicket was pale and dry with an odd bounce. I asked Joel if he'd like to open?
"I'll bat anywhere the team want me to". What a refreshing attitude and a dream for the captain.
Joel looks comfortable against the seamers and settle in after a few play and misses, a bit like the captain. We had added 59 for the first wicket and I toe-ended a drive to mid-on. We welcomed back Lewis for his first outing this season. There followed an entertaining partnership of 97. Both smacking boundaries and running hard between the wickets. I was just starting to think with plenty of overs left, we could see two young players reach the maiden league tons. Sadly both manifested dismissals to attacking shots and were out within 11 runs of each other. Joel a finely 73 and Lewis an authoritative 66. At 167-3 Keiran batting at 4, ran hard between the wickets and overseas Kiwi applied the finish touch with some lusty blows to ensure we comfortably reached max batting points.
242-3, I would have settled for that at the start and confident we could have defended it.
We are sitting top of the table and next week take on Great Totham at home. The forecast is dry and sunny and it'd be lovely to bat first for the third successive game.
Have a great week, ap
