Bentley CC- 2nd XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 17 Jul 2021 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
(report from league website)
On a glorious sun-drenched day requiring hydration breaks every 15 overs, the relegation clash between Great Waltham, perched bottom at the start of the day, against the host Bentley, concluded with the visitors winning comfortably by 6 wickets with 11 overs to spare.
The win nudges Great Waltham out of the relegation zone, 17 points clear, however with still six rounds left, division 3 status to play for.
Any side winning the toss yesterday did not hesitate to bat. The home captain Gordon (65) who made an unbeaten 85 in the corresponding fixture, once again was a stalwart of the Bentley innings. Together they had progressed the opening partnership against some fine Great Waltham bowling to 79 (at just over 3.5 an over) when a mix up ended with Rawlinson (22) run out. Thereafter, the momentum swung to the visitors. Reed’s leg spin yielding 2-33, Duggan bowling with an injured hand 3-35 and Hariram 4-37 earning maxing bowling points with one ball remaining in the innings. A mention to a young Waltham keeper for 3 catches and a stumping.
Chasing 188 for victory, Patel (14) and Bloom (20), propelled the visitors to a quick start, when Patel was deceived by a slower ball from Walker. Soon after Bloom was bowled by Morris (2-32), the pick of the Bentley bowlers. Dhanjal played a regal innings of 59, sprinkled with delightful boundaries. He was the last dismissal of the innings when playing a Sunday afternoon village slog, attempting to conclude the match with a six! He was ably supported my Hariram (22) and Chapman (37), both scoring above the required run rate.
Next week Great Waltham will at home against Navestock, whilst Bentley take on the inform Canvey Island.
