In the 1980s the England test team had reputation for extraordinary collapses, mainly against the Aussies. Yesterday, Great Wakening emulating the former, subsided from 95-2 off 20 overs to 122 all out off 33.2 overs. Smith well set had just drove a six when attempting to repeat the stroke two balls later was caught on the boundary by Barker.
From thereon the visitors never lost the momentum provided by their bowlers, Robinson 5-34 and Captain Chapman 3-12, De’Ath bowled a misery opening spell 2-9 off 7.

A cluster of wickets in the end of the innings resulted in the visitors winning by 4 wickets, 2 wickets a piece for Holman and Butcher.

The win for Great Waltham provides them with a much needed cushion above the relegation zone with a crucial game away to bottom placed Great Totham next week. The homeside's worring run of results travel to the league’s in form team Canvey.
