Match report
Match report from league website
With drizzle at the start of scheduled time and a wet forecast for the afternoon, credit to both captains for agreeing to a reduced game – 30 overs per side. The result of this game was not going to have any bearing on either team’s Division 3 status for 2022.
With both sides missing several key players – the games was finely balanced with the home side 40-3, a fine captain’s innings of 62 (Finch) and unbeaten run-a-ball 51 from Chapman set a challenging 173 to win. The bowling honours for the visitors went to Harry Duncan 4-35 off 8 overs.
Waltham started poorly, losing Patel in the 3rd over, playing on to Javed for 2. Javed bowled beautifully, full in length and ultimately settled the outcome of this game with 6-33 of 10 overs. There was a glimmer of hope with Harriam 37, however the boundaries didn’t manifest. A fine knock from Brown (34), added some respectability. In the end the home side won comfortably by 53 runs.
The season closes next week with Brookweald away to Navestock and Waltham at home to the promoted Rainham.
