Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI v Chignal 1st on Sat 09 Jul 2022 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report Tenants Great Waltham 3s hosted Chignal 1s on a hot day in the first of the season’s return fixtures. The ‘visiting’ landlords won the toss and elected to bat.

A tight opening spell from Lloyd Hariram, backed up by skipper Josh De’ath from the other end, meant Chignal couldn’t get away, opener Jain returning the ball to Hariram to leave them 14/1 in the fifth over. De’ath followed this up in the next over bowling Murray on the same score, then promptly took himself off to hand over the reins to the younger members of the team. Jamie Robinson took over, and pressure from bowler and fielders told as he picked up two wickets to leave Chignal at 54/4 after 15 overs.

By this point, Harrison Parr-Ozols was on at the other end and, bowling in tandem with Robinson, wickets continued to fall. Danny Parr-Ozols replaced Robinson with his leg-spin and kept giving the ball air despite attracting the attention of the batters, gaining his reward by deceiving Mitson with his moon ball for a rapid 18. Not to be outdone, Harrison picked up a second wicket before handing over to James Kent, who picked up a wicket off his tidy over before Danny had last man Woolcott caught to leave us a target of 106. Between them, the youngsters had taken seven wickets, Robinson the pick with his 3-31.

The Great Waltham reply got off to a very shaky start, the Chignal opening bowlers using their experience of the pitch to induce three nicks behind and one mistimed pull to put us at 13/4 after 5 overs. Atul Patel joined Nindi Dhanjal at the crease and the experienced pair weathered the storm, seeing us to 50/4 by the 15-over drinks break. The resumption saw us push on to reach 79 for no further loss of wickets by 20 overs. Remaining vigilant, Patel and Dhanjal punished any loss of line or length to bring us home just before the 25-over mark, Nindi finishing on a fine 62, Atul 22. A great way to bounce back after last week’s defeat.
