Match report On a warm day, Hornchurch Athletic won what looked to be a good toss and decided to bat first, and despite an early loss it looked to be the right decision with Pontin (24) and Khan (41) stroking the ball around beautifully. However, the home side had other ideas, and when Parr-Ozols (1-31) removed Pontin the floodgates were opened and a wonderful spell of swing bowling from skipper De'ath (3-16) ripped through the heart of Athletic. With the support of Nuttall (1-22) and Webb (2-16), the visitors slumped to 117 all out with 2 wickets from Kent wrapping up the innings.

In reply, after a wonderful tea, Athletic knew early wickets were a must, and despite a breakthrough in the second over, the home side cruised to victory. A fine 43 not out from Dhanjal, who never looked in any trouble, and skipper De'ath (27) who fell just short of deservedly taking his team home. A home victory by 7 wickets after the disappointment of last week.

The next few weeks could shape Great Waltham's season as the holiday season gets into full swing. This will give the 3rd XV the opportunity to blood some U15 youngsters that will hopefully rise to the challenge of Saturday league cricket.
