Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI v St John's Billericay 2nd on Sat 06 Aug 2022 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report Great Waltham 3s hosted St. John’s Billericay 2s on yet another beautiful, hot summer’s day. Having won the toss and elected to field, skipper Josh De’ath opened the bowling with Harrison Parr-Ozols. The decision was vindicated when, after only 5 overs, the skipper had seen off two batters to leave the visitors 19/2. Parr-Ozols continued to bowl well at the other end but without reward as Billericay rebuilt to reach 54/2 after 10 overs. Ringing the changes, Harry Jeremiah replaced De’ath and Arthur Cunningham replaced Parr-Ozols, and with tight bowling and an attacking field, Cunningham took two wickets of his own to take the score to 65/4 after 15 overs.

The real drama of the innings came in the 17th over when Jeremiah weighed in with a fine hat-trick, bowling a triple-wicket maiden to leave the visitors rocking at 76/7. The batting side continued to lose regular wickets as they tried to come to terms with a difficult pitch, the highlight of the remainder being a sharp, low catch by Cunningham off the tidy off-spin of Joel Barker to bring the bowler his second wicket. The young last-wicket pair guided the visitors beyond the century mark before James Wager finished off the innings to give him tidy figures of 1-11 off his six overs. Jeremiah was the pick of the bowlers with the hat-trick giving him 3-11 off his five overs.

With a target of 102, Micky Headon and Andy Hill took the hosts to 22 within the first three overs before Hill was bowled by Yadav for 6. The returning Nindi Dhanjal came to the crease and played a steadying hand as he and Headon took the score to 51/1 off the first 10 overs. They kept the scoreboard motoring along in the next three overs before Headon was bowled by one that kept low for 35. With the score now at 80/2, De’ath joined Dhanjal and the pair saw the team home with little drama in the eighteenth over, Dhanjal 35 not out and De’ath 5 not out as the home side won by eight wickets.

A welcome return to winning ways before we host Navestock 2s next week in the battle for promotion.
