After the lengthy journey to Ilford was negotiated, the visitors were put into bat and with Headon being bowled first ball by Subhani the start was not looking promising for Great Waltham. De'ath however soon steadied the ship and as Whettell started to find his rhythm the second wicket fell at 49.

As more wickets tumbled, Whettell stayed with Wright (13), Barker (27) and Hill (18) all getting themselves in but out again! With the seventh wicket falling at 171, Williams (17) and Whettell pushed the score over 200 and the fourth batting point. As the innings came to an end Whettell had batting for the whole innings and scored 96 runs. Not too shabby for a gentleman who plays for Essex Over 70s! 215 for 7 had been posted. Pick of the Ilford Catholics bowlers was Vikas Sharma 6-1-24-1 and Adrian Swain 8-0-43-3.

Ilford needed to start well but 24 for 0 soon became 38 for 4 as De'ath and Williams opened the bowling attack with precision and pace. Youngsters Kelvin Philip and Alfie Webb continued the wickets falling with both taking two wickets. Ilford were 64 for 8 and needed to rally. Parul Gupta (44 no) and Kashif Subhani (27) did just that but the damage had been done and the final wicket was taken by Barker to end finish the game and the Ilford Catholics innings.

Pick of the the Great Waltham bowlers were De'ath 8-3-13-3, Philip 5-1-23-2 and Webb 5-0-25-2. A very important win for the visitors by 50 runs as the league starts to bunch up and get exciting!
