Match report The 3s made the long trip to Belhus to play Oaklands (don’t ask me why). They too lost 5 overs due to rain in their match. All 3 Waltham captains won the toss this week and all three elected to bowl! The 3s made a great start as Alfie Webb and Sam Harman picked up early wickets to reduce the hosts to 10/2. This pair bowled incredibly economical opening spells of 8 overs 4/1 and 13/1 respectively! This is a fantastic effort and put us firmly in the driving seat from the get go. Oaklands skipper S Ayris was hanging around but he wasn’t really going anywhere. Luckily for us, Teresa Fitten agreed to play for us today and nicked him off to Danny Parr-Ozols. Great to see some our Ladies XI getting Saturday fixtures! The bulk of the Oaklands runs were coming from Handley who made an eye-catching 77 off just 76 balls. Unfortunately for Handley he wasn’t getting much help at the other end as skipper Dean picked up 2 quick wickets. The slow start cost the visitors and they could only muster 149/5 from their 35 overs.

Alfie and Atul set about the total but unfortunately Alfie was bowled with the score on 14. Similar to the 2s game, the next partnership resembled that of Clouty and Nindi’s. Atul was content to hold the innings together while Sam Harman played the role of aggressor. The pair put on 86 for the 2nd wicket and put us firmly in the driving seat. Sam stroked his way to his first 50 of the season making 59 off just 50 balls. Sam’s return to the team has been a revelation averaging 34 with the bat and 8(!) with the ball. When Sam was finally dismissed, again similarly to the 2s, Danny Parr-Ozols came in and batted positively and proactively. He made a quick fire 31 as he and Atul put on 45 to put the game beyond doubt. Unfortunately for the pair, they both lost their wickets with less than 5 needed for the win! Atul’s innings of 40 was crucial in managing the chase and as Andy Hill knocked the winning runs, we ran out winners by 6 wickets.
