Galleywood CC- 3rd XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 05 Jun 2021 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 85 runs

Match report With both sides looking for their first win Great Waltham travelled to Margaretting to play Galleyood 3rd XI. The home side won the toss and elected to field on a green, drying pitch that had the odd daisy in the outfield! The scene was set for a close, friendly match against old rivals.

The opening bowling pair of Dickson and E Boddhu found early accuracy and after 11 overs Great Waltham were 35 for 0. The batting combination of youth and experience saw Fall and Headon bat sensibly in the opening overs to build a good start for the visitors.

A bowling change of J Brown saw him take both openers, as Headon (28) and Fall (16) returned to the pavilion and at 53 for 2 after 20 overs Galleywood certainly looked as if they were in the driving seat. With De’ath mistiming a cover drive, Whettell and Tanner were at the crease in what became a match winning partnership. With Whettell’s timing and patience and Tanner’s power and speed, 70 for 3 after 24 overs became 150 for 3 after 33 overs. Tanner made a squash buckling 52.

Both Hill and Nuttall made valuable contributions in the final overs and with Whettell (73) carrying his bat Great Waltham reached 198 from their 40 overs. Pick of the Galleywood bowlers were Brown (5 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for 13 runs), Felton bowling very economically (7 overs for 19 runs) and G Boddhu (6 overs, 2 wickets for 42 runs).

With the Boycott like leader of Gray and Jacobs opening the batting, Galleywood started in similar fashion to Waltham – 48 without loss after 18 overs. Gray made a steady 24 and Jacobs a very technically correct 12. His strength and power will come and will certainly be one to watch in the future.

The young bowling attack of Tuck, Nuttall, Parr-Ozols and Webb were fantastic and after 30 overs the home side were 82 for 5. De’ath bowled his left arm inswingers effectively and Reed his spin that frustrated the middle order batsman.

A late order collapse saw Galleywood all out for 113. Webb contributed to two run outs and Waltham ran out winners by 85 runs. Great weather. Great cricket. Great company.
