Canvey Island CC- 2nd XI v Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 14 Aug 2021 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Lost by 139 runs
Match report
Great Waltham travelled to promotion chasing Canvey Island with a side of youth and experience. With the visitors winning the toss Canvey were invited to bat and openers Bavin (74 no) and Rising (72) started with style and gusto, 88 for 0 from 16 overs. With Bell and D Harman entering the attack the run rate slowed and 88 for 0 became 101 for 3 from 20 overs.
Canvey however pushed on with Bavin batting through and both Burrill (22) and Shave (22 no) scoring valuable runs. 209 for 4 from 40 overs. Pick of the bowlers were Dean Harman 9-1-34-2
Great Waltham started well with both Headon (28) and Fall (18) looking in good form. 46 for 0 from 7 overs. This whoever was as close as the visitors got and with the Harman father and son combination having to leave early Canvey only needed to get 8 wickets. Great Waltham all out for 70 with Gorman (5-1-10-4) and King (3-0-2-2) putting the lower order into a spin. Canvey Island gained a much-deserved victory by 139 runs.
