Match report Hmmm... another one that got away?

It's very easy for the 'one looking on' to sit and draw conclusions but the curse of modern technology means I was only ever a couple of clicks away from checking the live score or watching events play out in real time.

Based on the couple of conversations I've had, we were 25-30 runs short and put down a couple of key chances at crucial times. Take nothing away from Broomfield, to recover from 50-odd for 4 to secure their 6th win in a row is quite some achievement. Winning is a habit... unfortunately, so is losing. And we need to break the habit. Quickly.

Whilst I'm a huge fan of Baz-ball, I did like what KP said this week about '(de)valuing your wicket' and I think that applies at every level of our game. If we value our wicket, there's enough batting ability in this side to make use of the 45 overs at our disposal every week.

It's no coincidence that on 3 occasions where we've used our full compliment, we've won 2 games (Hat. Peverel and OC's) and lost by just 11 runs in the 3rd (Rayleigh). The only other time we've used the 45 was away at Wakering where we picked up some vital bonus points.

Bat time. Bat the overs. Assess the game situation. Pace the innings. When individuals have done that this season - Webby, Cam, Kurt, Blooma, Reedy - we've won games of cricket. You can't get any runs sat on the bench.

The table doesn't lie but we need to start translating the talent we've got into wins. There's no reason we can't string some victories together in the coming weeks and put some daylight between us and the bottom 2 spots.
