Chignal 1st v Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 07 May 2022 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 53 runs
Match report
The classic opening game of the cricket season. Landlord versus tenant, as Great Waltham CC started the 2022 campaign on the road in the picturesque village of Chignal Smealy!
Chignal won the toss and elected to field. All players looked to have wintered well as captain De'ath slapped the opening delivery for 4. The opening partnership of two left handers, saw Hill find the boundary too - 58 for 0 after 8 overs. With a direct hit to the stumps, Hill was run out for 18. Fall arrived and the runs continued. A good understanding between the De'ath and Fall looked to be forming but a smart catch saw Fall make 12.
Robinson frustratingly got one that keep low so the majority of the remaining runs came from De'ath (64) and Isaac Elles (37). The young lower order will get better as the season progresses. 160 all out. Pick of the Chignal bowlers were Mitson 2 for 42 from 8 overs, Kush 2 for 35 from 8 overs and Ifty 2 for 11 from 6.2 overs.
Great Waltham needed to get wickets early as Taylor and De'ath opened the bowling. With De'ath bowling his left-hand swing, wickets did arrive as Chignal found themselves 28 for 3 from 10 overs and 49 for 5 from 20 overs. The Great Waltham youngsters were fielding brilliantly as all kept keen and alert.
Harrison Parr - Ozol entered the attack along with Elles as Chignal went in search of their first batting point. At 94 for 9 this looked in doubt but with Ifty and Krishna finding some form at 10 and 11 this was achieved. Alfie Webb took the last and all important wicket. Chignal all out for 107. Pick of the Great Waltham bowlers were De'ath 3 for 22 from 6 overs, H Parr-Ozol 3 for 14 from 7 overs and I Elles 2 for 16 from 7 overs. A 57-run victory for the tenants.
