Bentley 3rd v Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 25 Jun 2022 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Won by 87 runs
Match report
Great Waltham 3s travelled to Great Bentley 3s in a top of the table class. The battle of the Greats - who would come out on top?
The visitors won the toss and decided to bat. Setting the tone was the order of the day but Hill (1) was run out with a direct hit to the stumps in the third over and very early momentum was lost. De'ath however was scoring freely as Patel (19) was caught behind off the bowling of J Marder. De'ath (43) and Elles (0) then quickly lost their wickets as Robinson and Whettell (12) found themselves in the middle and at 104 for 4 after 20 overs and the game in the balance.
In search of maximum batting points these two fine statesmen but on a quick 60 runs together as Robinson (88) began to dominate. The middle order all chipped in with McMillan (12), A Webb (18), Parr-Ozol (6) and Nuttall (3) all scammed valuable runs in the final overs. Great Waltham finished on 234 for 8 from 40 overs and the pick of the Bentley bowlers must of been J Marder with a five-wicket haul for 37 runs.
Bentley started brightly as Micallef (20) looked to be in a hurry. 31 for 0 without loss from 6 overs became 57 for 5 after 15 overs which turned the game. I Elles got the important wickets of I Gray (5) and Harris immediately after as Great Bentley could never really recover. R Marder (37) and S Darby (30) kept defeat at bay but were all out for 147 in 38.4 overs. Pick of the Waltham bowlers was Elles 3 for 22 from 8 overs, De'ath 2 for 16 from 4 overs and youngsters Parr Ozol, McMillan and Webb all taking a wicket.
A win for Great Waltham by 87 runs and top spot for at least a week.
