Rayne CC 2nd v Great Waltham Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 30 Jul 2022 at 1pm
Great Waltham Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
Great Waltham travelled to Rayne to visit the wonderful oak tree and enjoy a genuine game of village cricket. The visitors were fielding a number of U15s so the toss would be a good one to win.
Being put into bat, Headon (47) and Hill (31) started well. An opening partnership of 63 in 17 overs gave Great Waltham a good platform to post a respectable score. Kent (13) took a while to get going and with captain De’ath (43) moving the score on 81 for 1 after 20 overs became 143 for 2 after 29 overs.
A score of over 200 looked to be needed with an experienced Rayne side. The inexperience and youthfulness of the away side was now getting a bat and Dass (9), young Jeremiah (17) and D Parr Ozols, all making valuable contributions as the away side posted 197 for 8 from their 40 overs. All the Rayne bowlers had good figures especially Fielding 8 overs 1 for 20, Chacko 8 overs 2 for 29 and Jenkins 7 overs 1 for 24.
Rayne started well in the run chase and always looked in control to get the runs. At 30 for 2 a few fielders were getting excited but the arrive of captain Farr (81) made things difficult. Rayne secured the runs in the 36th over and were victorious by 6 wickets. Pick of the Waltham bowlers were De’ath 7.2 overs 2 for 30, Jeremiah 5 overs 1 for 22 and Wager 5 overs 1 for 27.
