Match report Fresh off the back of the consecutive losses in all comps for the 1s, we travelled to top of the table Old Chelmsfordians. Losing the toss again, the hosts elected to bat on a ground that hasn’t seen many big scores this year. Aaron Read was steaming in against his former side and whistling the ball through down wind. It looked like it was going to be another low scoring day as Aaron bowled an immense opening spell of 9 overs 4 for 17. He utilised the short ball brilliantly roughing up the OCs top order. On a surface that didn’t have much bounce, the short ball was dangerous as it was skidding through and rushing the batters from short of a length. He successfully bounced out two of their top 4 who were caught smartly at square leg by Jake De’ath. Jake picked up a wicket in his first over and then Josh picked up 2 in his first, a chance of a hat trick that didn’t come off. A brilliant run out from Harrison only brought more misery to hosts as thy slumped 69-8. The only slight negative of our bowling performance was that we weren’t quite ruthless enough at the end. Tom Bowerman put up a brilliant resistance at number 9 playing a number of eye-catching shots to drag OCs over the 100 mark. Matty came on picked up the last 2 wickets bundle out OCs for 112.
There isn’t much to report on the batting front as we stumbled our way toward the low total. Off the back of a 100 last week, Bloom had his front pad blown off 2nd ball of the game bang in front, not out… When your luck is in, your luck is in. He held the innings together picking off bad balls and running hard on the massive surface with lush outfield. He ticked over to 50 and most of the damage was already done. Unfortunately he was adjudged LBW 50 runs too late with the score at 90-4. Dan Humphreys was keen for a beer and smashed 23* off 17 balls to see us run out 6 wicket winners.
